The biggest challenge I have ( I’ve sewn for many years) is making buttonholes in fabric that is thick ~ Any suggestions or secrets to accomplish this?

Just a note on the threading; on my machine, Brother innov-is A65, the manual says that only the first thread on the right needle should go inside the hook-shaped threadholder above the needle; i don`t know the english word for it and neither did google... The second thread just go straight down to the needle. So i will advice all to check your manual for how to thread for a twin needle on your machine. If you don`t have the paper manual you can find it online.

I just got a cover stitch and am so excited. When I tried cover stitching a cotton t shirt material hem, the hem wasn’t wavy but it was “loose” or “baggy”? I can’t quite explain it. Does this mean I should iron it flat to ensure it doesn’t move and end up baggy and puffy? Maybe that’s why you gave the tip to baste? I guess I just figured I could hem without having to do anything extra to it or maybe I have to practice my technique to feed it evenly. Just not sure if my settings are off that creates this bagginess

I have a pair of cotton chinos that i need to taper. On the outside seams, there is top stitch which am not a fan of. Can i totally remove the top stitch or will that weaken the seams ?

I sew hems on cotton spandex. If the garment is stretched a little further than normal, the top stitches literally come totally apart. they pop up right off the fabric. What in the world could be going on? This has been just recently, I haven't changed any settings, and nothing seems to be wrong with my machine? Thank you :-) I use a stretch twin needle, tension at 4, SL at 3. I use embroidery thread for bobbin and top threads

The zig zag straight stitch is on your machine for a reason. It's not just for sewing lingerie. I also use it for the seams on knit fabric.

Hi! I'd like to share this tip: in my sewing there wasn't a zigzag at the back, while many videos clearly had it. Instead, the bottom thread followed an almost straight line. After quite a while I finally learned that you can also change the tension of the bottom thread by loosening a bit the little screw in the metal bobbin case. It worked like a charm. Thank you for your thorough tutorial, it really helped me!

Wind and use a bobbin or two, why not? What a great, appropriate solution! And . . . if this is your first twin-needle experience, manually make sure the now-wider needle(s) clears the needle slot in the foot. But don't assume that all twin-needles of various widths will clear.

The overcast/over lock has disappeared from the fly shield when you starch it to the zip?
